<p class=MsoPlainText>ACM HotNets-VIII<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>October 22-23, 2009<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>New York City, NY<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><a href="http://conferences.sigcomm.org/hotnets/2009/">http://conferences.sigcomm.org/hotnets/2009/</a><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Call for Papers<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>The Eighth ACM Workshop on Hot Topics in Networks
(HotNets-VIII) will<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>bring together people with interest in computer networks
to engage in<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>a lively debate on theory and practice of networking.
Continuing the<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>HotNets tradition, the workshop will provide a venue for
presenting<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>and discussing innovative ideas that have the potential
to<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>significantly influence the community. The goal is to
promote<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>community-wide discussions of those ideas.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>We invite researchers as well as practitioners to submit
a short<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>position paper describing such an idea. The paper could,
for example,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>expose a new problem, advocate a new approach, re-frame
or debunk<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>existing work, report unexpected results from a
deployment, or propose<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>new evaluation methodologies. We especially encourage
submissions of<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>early-stage work and enticing but unproven ideas. Once
fully developed<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>and evaluated, the work may be relevant to conferences
such as<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>SIGCOMM, SOSP, SenSys, MobiCom, PODC, or Infocom.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>HotNets takes a broad view of networking research. This
view<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>encompasses all kinds of modern day computer networks,
including (but<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>not limited to) home and enterprise networks, ISP
networks, sensor and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>personal area networks, wireless and acoustic networks,
data center<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>networks, peer-to-peer networks, and disruption-tolerant
networks. It<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>also encompasses all aspects of such networks, including
(but not<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>limited to) resource management, economics and evolution,
robustness<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>and security, mobility, interactions with applications,
energy,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>measurement and diagnosis, and hardware.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Position papers will be selected based on originality,
likelihood of<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>spawning insightful discussion at the workshop, and
technical<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>merit. Accepted papers will be posted online prior to the
workshop and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>a workshop summary will be published in ACM SIGCOMM's
Computer<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Communication Review (CCR), widely disseminating the
ideas discussed<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>at the workshop.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Workshop Participation<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>HotNets is an invitation-only workshop. To ensure an
interactive<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>atmosphere, attendance will be limited to around 60<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>people. Invitations will be extended per the following
priorities:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> * the Program and Steering Committees, one author per
paper, and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> any speakers invited by the Program Committee<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> * co-authors of accepted and submitted papers,
preferring students<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> as available travel support allows<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> * event-sponsor representatives and additional
authors of<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText> submitted papers at the discretion of the Program
Committee<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Submission Instructions<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Submitted papers must be no longer than 6 pages (10 point
font, 1 inch<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>margins). All submissions must be blind: submissions must
not indicate<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>the names or affiliations of the authors in the paper.
Only<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>electronic submissions in PDF will be accepted.
Submissions must be<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>written in English, render without error using standard
tools (e.g.,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Acrobat Reader), and print on US-Letter sized paper.
HotNets-VIII<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>reviews will follow standard academic practice, although
some rejected<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>papers may not receive full-length reviews.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoPlainText>Information on how to submit papers is available at<o:p></o:p></p>
