<p class=MsoNormal>Call for Papers: International Workshop on Urban, Community,
and Social<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Applications of Networked Sensing Systems (UrbanSense08)
November 4, 2008, Raleigh,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>North Carolina, USA<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Deadline: August 1st.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>http://sensorlab.cs.dartmouth.edu/urbansensing/<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Held in conjunction with ACM SenSys 2008 Sensing is going
mobile and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>people-centric. Sensors for activity recognition and GPS for
location<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>are now being shipped in millions of top end mobile phones.
This<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>complements other sensors already on mobile phones such as
high-quality<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>cameras and microphones. At the same time we are seeing
sensors<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>installed in urban environments in support of more classic
environmental<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>sensing applications, such as, real-time feeds for
air-quality,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>pollutants, weather conditions, and congestion conditions
around the<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>city. Collaborative data gathering of sensed data for people
by people,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>facilitated by sensing systems comprised of everyday mobile
devices and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>their interaction with static sensor webs, present a new
frontier at the<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>intersection between pervasive computing and sensor
networking.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>This workshop promotes exchange among sensing system
researchers<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>involved in areas, such as, mobile sensing, people-centric
and<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>participatory sensing, urban sensing, public health,
community<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>development, and cultural expression. It focuses on how
mobile phones<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>and other everyday devices can be employed as network-
connected,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>location-aware, human-in-the-loop sensors that enable data
collection,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>geo-tagged documentation, mapping, modeling, and other
case-making<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>capabilities.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>This workshop is the third in a series of meetings held at
SenSys over<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>last few years. The first workshop in 2006 dealt with the
concept of the<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>world sensor web and the second at SenSys 2007 focused on
sensing on<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>everyday mobile phones in support of participatory research.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>We particularly encourage position papers on the following
topics (but<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>not limited to):<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Applications and architectural ideas<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Mobile phones sensing systems<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Activity recognition and classification techniques<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Data gathering, analysis and visualization of sensed data<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Privacy and security issues<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Sensing and its application to social networks<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- City-wide urban sensing<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Machine learning for human and group behavior<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Participatory and opportunistic sensing<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Body area sensor networks<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Sensing for creational applications, healthcare, public
health,<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>community development, and cultural expression.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>- Interaction between static sensor webs and mobile sensors.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Paper Submission Instructions:<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>Submissions should contain 5 U.S. letter pages in PDF

<p class=MsoNormal>all references, figures and tables. Papers should be single
column using<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class=MsoNormal>11pt font. Proceedings will be made available to workshop
participants<o:p></o:p></p>
