No less than one-third of Sweden?s technical research and engineering education capacity at university level is provided by KTH. Education and research spans from natural sciences to all branches of engineering and includes architecture, industrial management and urban planning. There are a total of just over 15,000 first and second level students and more than 1,600 doctoral students. KTH has almost 4,300 employees. The School of Electrical Engineering conducts research and education in the fields of electrical engineering, systems engineering, information and communications theory, space and fusion plasma physics, and electrical power engineering. 360 people work in this creative and dynamic environment, out of which half are Ph.D. students, many from other countries. Our research projects are carried out in close collaboration with industry partners as well as with research colleagues from Sweden and other countries. The school is responsible for educating civil engineers in electrical engineering and five masters programs which are in great demand and which have a close connection to our main fields. The Automatic Control Lab conducts fundamental research in optimization and control of communication systems, networked control systems, and systems theory. Industrial projects involve partners such as Ericsson Research and ABB Network Automation. A major part of the research is conducted within the ACCESS Linnaeus Centre, Europe?s largest university research centre in networked systems, and in EU-projects in collaboration with European industry and universities. We have a large academic network and collaborate with researchers at Caltech, ETH Zurich, MIT, UC Berkeley, Stanford, among others. We are currently looking for 1-3 PhD students with a strong background and interest in mathematics, optimization, networking, control and systems theory. Our research projects will support these PhD students within the areas of ? Estimation, learning, and classification from large datasets; ? Optimization, dynamic modeling and adaptation of future wireless networks; ? Privacy preserving optimization over networks; ? Wireless networks at a large and small-scale for medical applications; ? Wireless sensor networks. Qualifications of Candidates We seek highly motivated individuals holding an MSc degree in electrical engineering, engineering physics, bioengineering, mathematics, computer science or similar fields. The candidates should have excellent grades and very good skills in oral and written communication. They should be ready to contribute to an international research group and a scientific research agenda of major importance for European industry and society. KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University. Employment PhD positions are intended for those who pursue their own doctoral studies. The positions include about 80% research and 20% teaching assistance duties. The salary is based on the existing employment agreement for PhD position at the School of Electrical Engineering. Application The application shall include the following ? CV (maximum 2 pages) including education and relevant academic/work experience ? A brief statement on why the applicant wishes to pursue PhD studies ? Contact information to three references ? Degree certificate(s) and official transcripts of records. Above described documents should be merged into one single pdf-file, and attached to application e-mail. Applications should be emailed to 0052 at ee.kth.se Please indicate Employer?s reference number E-2013-0052 in the e-mail subject line.
