From Andrew.Moore at cl.cam.ac.uk Tue Aug 9 15:21:27 2011 From: Andrew.Moore at cl.cam.ac.uk (Andrew Moore) Date: Tue, 9 Aug 2011 23:21:27 +0100 Subject: [sigcomm] NetFPGA Sigcomm Introductory Tutorial August 19, 2011 Message-ID: <3EE9B410-99A8-4E1F-A3CB-615416E7EBC9@cl.cam.ac.uk> We are pleased to announce the upcoming NetFPGA Introductory Tutorial at Sigcomm (Toronto, Canada), on August 19, 2011. An open platform called the NetFPGA has been developed at Stanford University. The NetFPGA platform enables researchers and instructors to build high-speed, hardware-accelerated networking systems. The platform can be used in the classroom to teach students how to build Ethernet switches and Internet Prototcol (IP) routers using hardware rather than software. The platform can be used by researchers to prototype advanced services for next-generation networks. By using Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), the NetFPGA enables new types of packet routing circuits to be implemented and detailed measurements of network traffic to be obtained. During the tutorial, we will use the NetFPGA to determine the amount of memory needed to buffer TCP/IP data streaming through the Gigabit/second router. Hardware circuits within the NetFPGA will be implemented to measure and plot the occupancy of buffers. Circuits will be downloaded into reconfigurable hardware and tested with live, streaming Internet video traffic. Attendees will learn about the NetFPGA platform and what it can do. No knowledge of Verilog/VHDL required. Details about this event and registration information are posted on-line as: http://netfpga.org/tutorials/SIGCOMM2011/index.php Registration: http://www.certain.com/system/profile/form/index.cfm?PKformID=0x1116251d0be (NB while this event is supported by the ACM SIGCOMM, registration is not made through the conference main website.) A point of clarity; a) SIGCOMM, the conference, support the co-location of things; there is no official tutorial programme this year at ACM sigcomm 2012. This years NetFPGA tutorial is such a collocated event. b) this event is NOT supported by ACM SIGCOMM the sig in any manner at all. Sorry for that people, I'll go wear some sack clothe and ashes and henceforth trust nothing I'm told. Andrew. From keshav at uwaterloo.ca Fri Aug 12 13:02:21 2011 From: keshav at uwaterloo.ca (S. You can still attend the conference virtually: the proceedings of SIGCOMM 2011 will be available as a live webcast August 16-19 at http://www.weyond.com/sigcomm/webcast/ . Videos of paper presentations will also be available subsequently in the ACM Digital Library. The conference schedule can be found at http://conferences.sigcomm.org/sigcomm/2011/schedule.php . Note that we will only be webcasting the opening session and Sessions 1-11 (shown in green at the link above). We will not be webcasting workshops or the outrageous opinion session.
