Then I would suggest the rbridge WG catalogue a list of all possible
failure modes in 802.1, and address each one. There are many more other
than this specific instance of misconfiguration--I'm not certain why
this one was singled out for correction.
The reality is you don't try to correct misconfigurations in lower
layers when you're writing a protocol to run on top of them. You assume
the lower layer is configured correctly, work around places where the
lower layer protocol doesn't really support you, but you don't try to
guess how that lower layer might break, and try to work around every
possible case.
